This is hardly news, except that this time the Vatican has couched its attack, issued in a Pastoral Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church, in language that supposedly supports women’s choice and which says that women should be able to combine work and family. However, the choice is circumscribed by the Church’s ongoing opposition to women’s choice when it comes to fertility, as the Church continues to oppose contraception and abortion, and says that women’s primary role is child-bearing.
