Anna Bligh makes history

Congratulations to Anna Bligh, premier of Queensland, for her convincing win in Saturday’s state election. She came from behind, proving the polls wrong and, in the process, became the first woman in Australia to be elected Premier.
(History note: two other women, Carmen Lawrence(WA) and Joan Kirner (Vic) have beeb premiers but both lost their first elections, while Clare Martin in the Northern Territory successfully won re-election to the position of Chief Minister.Anna Bligh is the first woman sitting premier to secure re-election.)
