I met Senator Teddy Kennedy at a party to launch Ms. magazine on Capitol Hill in 1988. Gloria Steinem, the magazine’s founder, is in the background of this picture.

I heard your interview with Margaret Throsby and went out immediately and purchased your book which I loved reading on so many levels. 1st I have been a great fan of yours since Uni days. 2nd I knew your mother when I was a parishioner at Norwood. She reminded me when we were 1st introduced that she had spoken to me on the phone some years earlier at the time your brother was ill – my husband was also dying at the time and an article in the Advertiser prompted her to contact me. 3rd, I had once owned an art gallery for serious art buyers. And in spite of a pretty broad general knowledge of Australian artists did not know of Constance Stokes. But I knew and frequently went to Leveson St Galleries in the late 60′s. My uncle was Lloyd Rees who got a brief mention in your book. 4th, the Latvian connection has given me so much more understanding of the wartime experiences of Latvian friends. I could say lots more, but will conclude with warm congratulations. I will treasure the book. And I am off to the Gallery (Adelaide) to ferret out the Stokes in its collection. M.
